In the name of God Amen the twentith daye of June in the fouerth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland kinge defender of the faith etc one thousand sixe hundred twentie eight I George Babedge of the parish of Collompton in the countie of Devon clothier beinge weak and sicke in body but thankes bee to God in good and perfect memory doe ordaine and make this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following
First I give and bequeath my soule to Allmightie God my maker and redeemer and my body to christian buriall in the church of Collompton
Item I give unto the poore of Collumpton five pounds sterling to bee distributed by my overseers and executrix
Item I give unto the poore of Butterleigh twentie shillings and likewise towards the repayring of the church of Butterleigh ten shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto my mother one hundred pounds sterling to bee paid at or within one year next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Christopher Babbedge my brother one hundred pounds sterling to bee paid him at one yeare and halfe after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Embling Weeks the wife of Gowin Weeks twentie pounds sterling to bee paid at one yeare and halfe next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Weeks and Elizabeth Weeks daughters of the said Gowin and Embling Weeks to each of them ten pounds sterling to bee paid to them to their daie of marriage or at their age of twentie and one yeares which first come
Item I give and bequeath unto Christopher Weeks the sonne of the said Gowin and Embling Weeks the summe of ten pounds sterling to bee paid him at the age of one and twentie years
Item I give and bequeath unto Johane Gover the wife of Richard Gover the summe of ten pounds sterling to be paid her at or within one yeare next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto the three daughters of the said Richard and Johane Gover to each of them ten pounds to bee paid at their daie of marriage or at their age of one and twentie yeares which first happens
Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Ann Dyer fortie shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto the daughter of the said Ann Dier three pounds sterling to bee paid her at her daye of marriage or at her age of twentie and one yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Byney my sister the summe of twentie pounds to bee paid her immediately after the decease of John Byney her husband if she outlive him and not before but in the meantime she to have the interest of the said twentie pounds paid her yearly
Item I give and bequeath unto John Mynifie fortie shillings to bee paid him at or within one yeare next after my decease
Item I give unto Philip Babbedge of Halberton fortie shillings to bee paid at or within one yeare next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Roger Baker my servant ten pounds a yeare after the death of Mary my wife out of the revenues of the markett of Tiverton during his life
Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Crudge the residue of the revenues of the said markett of Tiverton during the life of the said Roger Baker after the death of Marie my wife
Item I give and bequeath the halfindeale of the fee farm of Shealings and Periams heath lying within the parish of Tiverton unto John Crudge the younger after the death of Richard Crudge and Marie Babbedge my wife during the residue of the terme
Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Palmer the daughter of Richard Palmer twentie pounds sterling to bee paid her at the age of twentie one yeares or within one yeare after her marriage
Item I give and bequeath unto all the master [ ] which I keepe a worke to each of them five shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto William Babbedge the sonne of Adam Babbedge five pounds sterling to bee paid him at or within two yeares next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Peter Baker the sonne of Thomas Baker of Buckland five pounds sterling to bee paid at or within two yeares next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Johan Baker who liveth with her father Thomas Baker aforesaid the summe of five pounds thirteen shillings and fouer pence sterling to bee paid her at or within two yeares next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Johan Baker an other daughter of the said Thomas Baker five pounds sterling to bee paid at or within two yeares next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my aunt Baker fortie shillings to bee paid at or within two yeares next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath to all my godchildren to each of them two shillings apiece
Item I give and bequeath unto George Baker the sonne of Thomas Baker of the parish of Collumpton the summe of five pounds sterling to bee paid to his father for his use at or before seaven years next after my decease or to any other friend for him my executrix to have a sufficient discharge thereof
Item I give and bequeath unto the church of Collumpton my best silver bole for an ornament thereof forever to remain
Item all the residue of my goods and chattles not before given and bequeathed I doe give and bequeath unto Mary my wife whom I doe make my whole and sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament to paie and discharge all my legacies before given and bequeathed and all other duties for and concerning my funerall
And I doe desire George Cockeram John Palmer of Launceston and Thomas Baker of Collumpton to bee my overseers to see this my last Will to be performed according to the true intent and meaning hereof and for their paines taken herein I doe give and bequeath to each of them thirtie shillings apiece In witness my hand and seal the daie and yeare before written
Memorandum that the foresaid George Babbedge being still in good and pfect memory & before he signed and sealed hereto doth give and bequeath unto Christian Tucker my servant maide fortie shillings
Item more I give and bequeath unto John Cole my apprentice fortie shillings to bee paid at the end of his apprenticeship
Item I give and bequeath unto Ann Taylor and Johan Pitman and Thomas Berry my apprentices to each of them fortie shillings if they doe see out their terme of apprentice
Item I give and bequeath unto Alexander Thorne ten shillings in presence of us underwritten by me George Babedge Test. me. George Prouz George Cockram Thomas Baker the mark of John Palmer
