In the name of God Amen in the twelthe daye of Aprill in the eighthe yeare of the rayne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of EnglandScotland France and Ireland king defender of the faithe anno dom 1632

I Marie Babidge of the pishe of Cullumpton in the county of Devon widdowe being in perfect memorie thoughe weake in body doe here make my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following

Imprimis I give & bequeath my soule into the handes of God my Creator and Redeemer and my body to be interred in the parishe churche of Collompton neare unto my late deceased husband

Item I give and bequeathe to the poore of Cullompton three pounds sterlinge to be payde to the wardens and overseers for the tyme beinge and to be bestowed according to theire discretions on the sayd part

Item I give and bequeathe to my sister Christian Crudge wief to my brother in lawe John Crudge one hundred and fiftie pounds sterlinge to be put into suche [ ] handes at or within two yeares next after my decease by the discretion of my executor and overseers of this my last Will and Testament as they shall thinke fitt and the use & benefitts thereof to come and remayne to my sayd sister Christian during her lief

And after her death my will is that it shall come and remayne unto suche children of my sayd sister Christian (my kynswoman Richard Vicarye only excepted) as shall be then livinge and unmarried equally to be divided amongste them

Item I give & bequeath unto my kinswoman Richard Vicarye wief unto John Vicarye one hundred pound sterlinge to be payde by fiftie pounds yearlie the firste payment to begynne & be payde at or within one halfe year after my decease and the other fiftie pounds sterling to be payde to her at or within one year & halfe next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Robert Crudge sonne unto my brother in lawe John Crudge one hundred pounds sterlinge to be payde at the tyme he shall accomplishe the age of one & twentie

And if the sayd Robert shall dye before the accomplishing of the age of one & twentie then my will is the sayd hundred pounds shall come and remayne unto such sisters and brothers of the sayd Robert as shall be unmarried & then living and to be equally divided amongst them

Item I give & bequeathe unto my cosyn John Crudge sonne unto my brother in lawe John Crudge one hundred pounds sterling to be payd at the tyme when he shall fully accomplishe the age of one & twentye

And if it happen the sayd John shall dye before he fully accomplishe the sayd age of one & twenty then my will is the sayd hundred pounds sterling shall be divided equallye among suche sisters and brothers [ ] as shall be then livinge after the decease of the sayd John

Item I give and bequeathe unto my kinswoman Christian Crudge daughter to my brother in law John Crudge one hundred pounds sterlinge to be payde at suche tyme as shee shall fullye accomplishe the age of one & twenty yeares

And if the sayd Christian shall dye before shee come to the age of one and twentye then my will is the sayd hundred pounds sterlinge shall be equally divided betwixte suche brothers & sisters unmarried as shall be then livinge after her death

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary [ ] my kynswoman one hundred pounds sterlinge to be payde within two yeares & halfe next after my death

Item I give to my cosyn John [ ] thirty three pounds sixe shillings eighte pence sterlinge to be payde at such tyme as he shall accomplish the age of one & twenty

Item I give & bequeath to my cosyn George Brewer thirty three pounds six shillings eight pence sterlinge to be payde when he shall accomplish the age of one & twenty

Item I give and bequeathe to my sister Rewe wief and to Robert Rewe my brother in lawe one hundred & fiftie pounds sterlinge to be payde at or before the end of two years next after my death and after her death my will is the sayd hundred & fiftie pounds sterling shall come and remayne to my kynswoman her daughter Edith Rewe

Item I give and bequeath unto my kynsman Richard Palmer two hundred pounds sterlinge to be payde when he shall accomplish the full age of one & twentiye

Item I give and bequeathe to Emline Weeks my sister in law tenn pounds sterling to be payde at or before three yeares next after my deathe

Item I give and bequeathe to Christopher Weeks my cosyn sonne unto the aforesaid Emline Weeks tenn pounds sterling to be payde at the tyme he shall accomplish the age of one & twentye

Item I give & bequeathe to my sister in law Richard [ G.. ] wief tenn pounds sterling to be payde as at or before three yeares next after my deathe

Item I give & bequeathe to Richard [ G…] children beinge three twenty pounds sterling to be payde & divided equallye amongst them as they shall accomplish the age of one & twenty

Item I give and bequeath to John Dyer’s wief fiftie shillings to be payde at or before two years next after my decease Item I give and bequeath to John Dyer’s daughter fiftie shillings to be payde when she shall accomplishe the age one & twentye

Item I give and bequeathe to my brother in law Christopher Babidge all the aparrell that shall be remayninge in my custodye of my late deceased husbands at the tyme of my deathe

Item I give & bequeathe to each of my apprentices twenty shillings to be payd at or before the end of two yeares next after my deathe

Item I give and bequeathe unto William Brewer sonne unto Mary Brewer thirty three pounds six shillings eight pence sterling to be payde when he shall accomplishe the age of one & twenty

Witnesseth George Cockeram Robert Rowe the syne of Mary Babidge I under written being desired & purposely sent by the testatrix Mary Babidge for to putt my hand to this her last Will and Testament having done according to her remembrance the xvjth daye of Aprill 1632 the signe of Mary Babidge [Pmuden]

Item I give and bequeathe to Elizabeth Week’s daughter to Emline Weeks tenn pounds sterling to be payde at the tyme shee shall accomplishe the age of one & twenty

Item my will is that my executor shall paye to my cosyn Roger Baker tenn pounds sterling after my death in which summe of tenn pounds my late husband deceased willed me to give him by word of mouth a little before his death

Item I give & bequeathe to Robert Cockeram sonne unto my cosyn George Cockeram five pounds sterling to be payde at or before the ende of fouer yeares next after my deathe to be payde unto his father or to any friend of his for his use and my executor to have a sufficient discharge thereof

Item I give & bequeathe to George Baker five pounds sterling being the sonne of Thomas Baker of Cullumpton and the same to be payde at or before the end of five yeares & halfe next after my death unto Thomas Baker his father or to any friend of his for the sole use as a foresayd of the sayd George Baker and my executor to have a sufficient discharge thereof

Item I give & bequeathe to George Babidge my cosyn sonne unto Phillipp Babidge of Collumpton five pounds sterling to be payde to his father for his use at or before the ende of three yeares next after my deathe and for him my executor to have a sufficient discharge thereof

Item I give & bequeathe to my aunt Baker two pounds sterling to be payde at or before the ende of two years next after my death

Item I give and bequeathe to all my aunt Baker’s children to each of them two poundes sterling to be payde to eache of them at all before the end of two years next after my death

Item I give and bequeathe to Phillipp Babidge my cosyn of the pishe of Cullumpton forty shillings sterling to be payde at or before the end of two years next after my deathe

Item I give and bequeathe to the poore of the parrishe of Butterleighe tenn shillings sterling

Item I give & bequeath towards the repayring of the church of Butterleighe tenn shillings sterling

Item I give & bequeathe to Joane Dandry of Butterleighe tenn shillings sterling

Item I give and bequeathe towards the educating & instructing of the poore children of the pishe of Cullompton in the rudiments of learning tenn pounds sterling to be payde after my death the which tenn pounds my will is shall remayne in the handes of Mr Richard Peck vicar of Cullompton George Cockeram & Thomas Baker my overseers and the benefitt thereof to remayne in contynuance for the instructing of children aforesaid in good literature in contynuance

And if the sayd Richard Peck George Cockeram & Thomas Baker dye my will is the sayd tenn pounds shall remayne unto the wardens & overseers with the full consent of the [ ] of the sayd pishe and the proffit thereof to be payd yearlie according to my meaninge aforesayd

Item I give & bequeathe unto my kinswoman Edith Rowe daughter to my brother in lawe Robert Rowe one hundred & fiftie pounds sterling to be payde at the tyme shee shall accomplish the age of one & twenty

Item I give & bequeath unto my cosyn Phillipp Babidge’s children of the pishe of Halberton to each of them tenn shillings to be paid to eache of them at or before the ende of two yeares next after my death

Item I give & bequeathe to all my godchildren (those before herein named only excepted) to each of them two shillings sterling to be payde at or before the ende of one quarter of a yeare next after my death

Item I give & bequeathe to Johane Grabham of [Twyfordton] tenn shillings

Item I give & bequeath to Alice Chapcott of [Twyfordton] tenn shillings

Item I give & bequeathe to tenn poore widdowes of Cullumpton to eache of them two shillings sterling and to be given to such only as shall seeme fytte in the discretion of my executor and overseers

Item all the residue of my goods & chattells not before given nor bequeathed I give and bequeathe to my brother John Palmer whom I do make my whole & sole executor of this my last Will and Testament and to paye & discharge all my legacies before given & bequeathed & all other dutyes and charges for & concerning my funerall

And I doe constitute & appoynte George Cockeram & Thomas Baker both of Cullumpton to be my overseers to see this my last Will to be truly performed & done according to the true intent & meaninge hereof and for their paynes taken therein I give & bequeathe to each of them thirty shillings sterling

In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seale even the daye & yeare above written

I underwritten being desyred and purposelye sent for by the testatrix Mary Babidge for to putt my hand to this her last Will and Testament and have donne accordinge to her command the xvjth day of Aprill 1632 [Pmuden]
