Estate Duty Office Will of James Blackmore Frost late of Cullompton, Yeoman (1848)

Proved in the Principal Registry of the Lord Bishop of Exeter the 25th day of February 1848

Appeared personally Humphrey Blackmore Mills of Cullompton in the county of Devon paper maker the sole executor named in the Will of James Blackmore of Cullompton aforesaid yeoman who died on the 1st day of February 1848

This is the last Will and Testament of me James Blackmore of Cullompton in the county of Devon yeoman which I publish and declare as follows

I give to my daughter Mary Leach of Kentisbeare in the county of Devon widow the sum of one hundred pounds sterling

I give to the said Mary Leach one of my mahogany easy chairs also the oak table and seal slide I also give to the said Mary Leach my mahogany bureau during her life and after her decease to my granddaughter Matilda also the sofa to my daughter Mary during her life and after her death to my granddaughter Ann Maria Blackmore Leach

Unto my granddaughter Martha Leach I give my oak chest of drawers small mahogany table and wash stand mahogany tea chest mahogany tea tray tea set of blue china and the corner cupboard the bureau bed and bedding and furniture also six silver teaspoons one silver tablespoon one pair of silver sugar tongs and my Bible

I give to my son Thomas Blackmore the sum of one pound and to his daughter Jane the sum of five pounds

I give to my granddaughter’s Anna Leach Mary Ann Leach Elizabeth Leach and Ann Leach the sum of five pounds each unto my granddaughters Martha Leach and Matilda Leach I give the sums of ten pounds each

All the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate money chattels and effects whatsoever after payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Leach the wife of Thomas Leach dairyman for her sole and separate use free from the control debts and engagements of her present or any future husband and I hereby declare that her receipt alone for all the monies paid her shall be a sufficient discharge for my executor hereinafter named

All which said several legacies I direct to be paid and delivered by my executor hereinafter named within twelve months next after my decease or sooner if the money can be conveniently called in

And I hereby declare that my executor hereinafter named shall not be responsible for losses happening without his wilful neglect or default and shall be at liberty to retain and allow to himself all reasonable expenses incident to the execution of the purposes of this my Will

And I appoint Humphrey Blackmore Mills of Cullompton aforesaid paper maker sole executor of this my Will hereby revoking all other Wills

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty fourth day of April one thousand eight hundred and forty seven James Blackmore

Signed by the said testator in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence and at his request have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses
