In the name of God Amen the fourth day of July one thousand six hundred forty and three and in the nyneteenth yeare of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles by the grace of God king of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the Faith etc.

I John Blackmore the elder of Knoll within the parish of Colompton in the county of Devon gent being of good and perfect mind and memory and in reasonable strength of body (God bee praysed for it) revoking all former Wills and Testaments whatsoever doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following (vizt)

Imprimis I commend and bequeath my soule into the hands of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer through the only meritts of whose most precious death and passion I hope in true faith believe to receive full remission of all my sinnes and after this lyfe ended everlasting salvation of body and soule and my body I commend to xpian buriall to bee interred in the South aisle neare to the seate which I usually sitt in the Church of Collompton and neare the place or tombe where my father and mother lye buryed and in such decent manner as to my executrix hereafter named shall seeme meete

Item I give to the reliefe of the poore of Collompton aforesayd fouere pounds to bee distributed amongst the poore and needye of them and such others as by the discretion of my executrix and oversteers hereafter named shall bee thought fitt

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Edward Blackmore the summe of five poundes to be payd unto him within one yeare next after my death

Item I give unto my sonne John Blackmore the younger and to each and every of my daughters three shillinges fouere pence apeice and to all and every of my grandchildren which shall bee living at the time of my death three shillinges fouere pence apiece every of the said legacies soe given to my sayd children and grandchildren to bee payd within one yeare after my decease

Item I give to all and every my godchildren twelve pence apiece

Item all the residue of my goods and chattells chattell leases household stuffe debts and ready money whatsoever I doe hereby give and bequeath unto my loving wyfe Thomasin Blackmore and I doe make and ordaine the sayd Thomasin my wyfe to bee sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament

And I doe also entreate and appoint my very good friendes William Fowler the elder of Collompton and Thomas Helmore of [ ] my sonne in lawe to be overseers of this my last Will to be assisting in their best helpe and advice to my sayd executrix in the performance of this my last Will according to my true intent and meaninge herein declared and I give to each of them for their paynes in this behalf three shillings fouere pence apiece

In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written the mark of John Blackmore

Signed sealed and published by the sayd John Blackmore as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us John Cole William Fowler William Fowler junior
