Proved in the Archdeaconry Court of Exeter on the 19th of September 1856
Appeared personally Daniel Hooper of the parish of Bradninch in the county of Devon yeoman one of the two executors named in the last Will and Testament of William Brown late of Crankland Farm in the parish of Cullompton in the county of Devon yeoman who died on the 11 day of July 18546
This is the last Will and Testament of me William Brown of Crankland farm in the parish of Cullompton in the county of Devon farmer
First I give devise and bequeath unto Daniel Hooper of Bradninch in the said county farmer and Sarah my wife all my live and dead stock implements in husbandry household goods and furniture moneys securities for money and every thing that I may die possessed in trust for the use and benefit of my said wife Sarah during the term of her natural life or as long as she shall remain my widow subject nevertheless first to the payment of my just debts funeral expenses and the expense of proving this my Will
And from and immediately after the decease or intermarriage of my said wife I direct the said Daniel Hooper his heirs or assigns to sell and dispose of all and every thing that I may die possessed of by public auction or private contract and the produce of such sale or sales I give and bequeath unto my sons and daughters as follows I give and bequeath unto my son Robert the sum of one hundred pounds I give and bequeath unto my daughter Barbara the sum of sixty pounds
And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my effects I give and bequeath the same unto my sons and daughters namely William John Robert Barbara and Jane wife of Thomas Shere to be divided between them as hereinafter requested that is to say I direct that each of my said sons shall have and receive double the share that each of my said daughters shall have and receive all which said legacies I direct shall be paid unto my said sons and daughters within twelve months next after the decease or intermarriage of my said wife Sarah
And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Daniel Hooper executor and my said wife Sarah executrix in trust of this my last Will and Testament and my will is and I do hereby direct that they shall each of them be answerable for his or her act and receipts only and not the one of them for the other of them and that they shall not be answerable for any loss or miscarriage by any security or securities that may happen in my estate and also that they shall retain all their cost charges damages and expenses out of the estate and effects in them respectively vested in and by this my Will
In witness whereof I the said William Brown have to this my last Will and Testament subscribed my hand this nineteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty six

Signed published and declared by the said testator William Brown as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the joint presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto
