In the name of God Amen Anno Dm [Latin 1557] the xth of Aprill I Thomas Cholas of the pshe of Columpton in the countie of Devon having perfytt remembrance make this my Testament in manner and fourme followinge
First I give and bequeath my soule to the eternall God and my bodye to be buried in the churche yearthe of our Ladie Saint Marye of Colmpton and in the same churche to mayntyn lighte before the blessed sacrament iij s iiijd
And to the light before the higher crosse in the said churcheijs iijd and to the bylding of the tower when it is a buylding x pound
Item to the churche of Clyst Hydon to be prayed for vis vijd To the churche of Broadhembrie to be prayed for xs iijd
Item to my sonne Edwarde Cholas for his child part fyve pounds
Item to my son Jes..] Cholas for his child pte fyve pounds
Item to my sonne Robert Cholas for his child parte fyve pounds
Provided that this money to be paid to every of my said children at the age of xxj yeres
If any of them dye before that age the longest lyving to enjoye the part or ptes of him or them [ ] or did
Also I bequeath to Walter Sampson my sonne in lawe xxs
Item to John Cholas my brother one croke
Item to every of my godchildren three pence apiece
Last I do order and apoynt to be my overseers rulers and [ ] to my executrix Edward Dyer William Cholas and William Lane and they to see that all thinges be done according to this my last Will and that no money be due to myne executrix and every of theym to have for their paynes iij s iii d
The residue of all my goods I give and bequeath to Joane Cholas my wife whom I do ordyne and make to be my hole executrix to dispose parts in holy bfts at her discretion for the health of my soule
