In the name of God Amen The second day of January Anno Domini one thousand six hundred forty five I Thomas Cockram of Colompton in the county of Devon gent doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following

Imprimis I commend my soule into the hands of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer and my bodie to Christian buriall to be interred in the parish church of Colompton neare unto the place where my late wife was buried

Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest sonne David Cockram all that my tenement called Woodcockswell with ye appurtenances situate in Collompton aforesayd and all my right estate terme of years and interest therein the same to be charged nevertheless with the payment of one hundred markes of lawfull English money to be levied and paid out of the sayd tenement and premises unto my fouer children hereafter named which I doe hereby devise and appoint to be paid unto them respectively in manner and forme following that is to say to my two younger sonnes Humfrey Cockram and George Cockram and my two daughters Susan and Winifred to each of them fifteen pounds fourteen shillings and fouer pence apiece to be paid at their severall ages and age of eighteene yeares that then the sayd legacie of him or her soe dying to remayne to the survivors and survivor of them to be equally divided among them

Item whereas I am possessed and interested of one tenement with the appurtenances called Cranklands situate in Collompton aforesayd for and during the severall termes and estates hereafter mentioned that is to say one terme or estate of fouerscore and tenn yeares by originall demise and grant of John Toker late Abbott of Buckland by deede dated the second day of February in the eight and twentieth yeare of the raigne of our late King Henry the eight late King of England one other term or estate of two thousand nyne hundred yeares of and in the same premises to commence after the expiration of the foresayd lease of nynetie yeares and from then to be complete and ended if I the sayd Thomas Cockram or any issues males lawfully begotten or springing of my bodie for long shall happen to live by the demise and grant of David Cockram gent my father by deede dated the first day of November in the eight yeare of the raigne of King Charles now king of England etc and one other terme or estate of twenty and one yeares to commence after the expiration of the last mentioned terme and from thence fully to be compleat if any issues females of my bodie lawfully begotten or either of them shall soe long happen to live by the demise and grant of the sayd David Cockram my deceased father by deede dated the sixth day of November in the sayd eight yeare of King Charles aforesayd as by the sayd severall deeds thereof appeareth

Now as concerning the sayd tenemt and premises called Cranklands I doe hereby give devise and bequeath the same unto my sonne Thomas Cockram for and during soe many yeares and such parts and parcells of the sayd severall before mentioned termes respectively to come as he the sayd Thomas Cockram or any issue child or children of his body lawfully begotten issuing or springing or any or either of them shall happen to live

And if the sayd Thomas Cockram my sonne shall happen to dye without issue that then the sayd tenemt and premises called Cranklands shall remayne and come to my sayd sonne Humfrey Cockram and his assigns for and during soe many years and such parts and parcels of the sayd severall termes before mentioned respectively as he the sayd Humfrey or any issue child or children of his body lawfully begotten issuing or springing or any or either of them shall happen to live

And for default of such yssue of the bodie of the sayd Humfrey that then the sayd tenement and premises called Cranklands shall remayne and come to my sonne George Cockram and his assignes for and during soe many yeares and such parts and parcels of the sayd severall termes before mentioned respectively as he the sayd George Cockram or any yssue child or children of his bodie lawfullly begotten yssuing or springing or any or either of them shall happen to live

And for default of such yssue of the bodie of the sayd George Cockram that then the sayd tenement and premises shall remayne and come to David Cockram my sonne and his assignes for and during soe many yeares and such part and parcell of the sayd several termes before mentioned respectively as he the sayd David or any yssue child or children of his bodie lawfully begotten yssuing or springing or any or either of them shall happen to live

And for default of such issue of the body of the sayd David Cockram then the sayd tenement and premises to remayne and come to my daughter Susan Cockram and her assignes for and during soe many yeares and such parte and parcell of the severall termes before mentioned respectively as she the sayd Susan or any issue child or children of her body lawfully begotten yssuing or springing or either of them shall happen to live

And for default of such yssue of the bodie of the sayd Susan then the sayd tenement and premises called Cranklands to remayne and come to my daughter Wynifred and her assignes for and during all the residue and remnant of the severall termes and termes of yeares and estates before mentioned and every of them respectively then to come and unexpired

The same tenemt and premises called Cranklands to be charged nevertheless with the payment of six score pounds of lawfull English money unto my fouer children Humfrey Cockram George Cockram Susan and Winifred that is to say sixtie pounds apiece to be paid to each of them at their severall ages of eighteene yeares if they respectively live soe long the same to be levied out of the sayd tenement and premises and to be paid at their severall ages of eighteene yeares And if either of them shall happen to dye before his or her age of eighteene yeares then the sayd legacie of him or her soe dying to remayne to the survivors and survivor of them to be equally divided amongst them

And I doe further devise and appoint that such reasonable contribution and summe of moneye shall be had taken and imployed out of and with the yearely issues and profitts of the sayd tenement and premises called Cranklands and Woodcockswell for and towards the education of my sayd severall children and every of them respectively during their minority as by the discretion of my executors of trust hereafter named and the survivors and survivor of them shall thought meete

Item I do devise and appoint that all my just and lawfull debts may be satisfied and paid and all the residue of my goods and chattells whatsoever after my debts satisfied and legacies performed and funerall discharged I doe wholly give and bequeath unto my sonne Humfrey Cockram whome I doe hereby make and ordaine to be sole and whole executor of this my last Will and Testament

And I doe hereby authorize appoint and earnestly entreat my loving brothers Mr George and David Cockram and my brother in law Richard Crosse of Glaslowman and Richard Crosse of Hillersdon to be executors of this my last Will and Testament until the sayd Humfrey my sonne shall accomplish and attaine to his full age of one and twentie yeares and to see this my Will performed according to my true meaning herein declared

In witness whereof I have to this my last Will contayned in three leafes of paper set my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written
