In the name of God Amen the xxvjth daie of March in the yere of our Lord God 1564 and the sixth yere of the raigne of our Sovereigne Lady Elizabethe by the grace of God of England France and Ireland Queen defender of the faith etc.
I John Cole of Colompton in the countie of Devon merchant beinge in perfecte remembrance thankes be to God doe make my Testament and last Will in manner and fourme followinge
First I bequeath my soule unto Almighty God and my body to xpian buriall
Item I give and bequeath to the reparation of the churche of Columpton iijs.
Item I give and bequeathe to be distributed in almes to the poore forty shillings
Item I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Gertrude Cole one hundred poundes of lawfull monney of England to be levied and paid out of Bycott Place within the parishe of Haberton in the countie of Devon at her lawfull age of xxiij yeres
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Johan Cole one hundreth poundes of lawfull monney of England to be levied and paied out of the said Bycote place in the parish of Halberton aforesaid at her lawfull age of xxiij yeres
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Cole one hundreth poundes lawfull monney of England to be levied and paied out of Bycott Place aforesaid at her lawfull age of xxiij yeres
Also I give and bequeath to my sonne John Cole all my leases of Boycott and Kingsforde and of all my landes and rents and if my sonne John Cole doe die without heires then the same landes after the decease of Elizabeth Cole my wief to remaine unto my three daughters before named
And if my three daughters doe happen to die all without issues of their bodies that then the same landes to remaine to my brother Bennett Cole and to his heires and then the one half of the goodes to remaine to Elizabeth Cole my wief and the other half amongst my kinnsfolke
Item I give and bequeathed to Bennet Cole my brother tenne poundes
Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Bale forty shillings
The residue of all my goodes not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my wief whome I make myne executrix
And after my debts and legacies be fully satisfied contented and paied yf the said Elizabeth Cole my wief and executrix be not left worth of my goods three hundreth poundes that then my will is she shall be first made worth three hundreth poundes out of Bycote place aforesaid
And I doe make my overseers and rulers of this my Testament and last Will Humfrey Parys John Ratcliff Thomas Mannyng and my brother Bennet Cole and I give to the said Humfrey Parris John Ratcliff and Thomas Mannyng forty shillings apeice
these being witness George Mannyng clerk curat of Columpton George Cockeram Thomas Bale and Simon Burne with others
