In the name of God Amen the thirteenth daye of September Anno Dom 1623 I Richard English of Collompton in the county of Devon gent sicke in body but perfect in minde and memory thankes be given unto Allmighty God doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following
First I bequeath my soule unto God my maker and redeemer and my body to christian buriall
Item I give towards the repairing of the parish church of Collompton twenty shillings
Item I give unto the poore of the parish of Huntsham twenty shillings
Item I give unto the poore of the parish of Bradnynch twenty shillings
Item I give unto the poore people of Collompton and especially unto the elder sorte the summe of eight pounds to be distributed according to the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and the churchwardens of the parish of Collompton for the time beinge within one half year next after my decease
Item I give unto Grace Richards my sister the summe of five pounds to be paid within halfe year of my decease
Item I give unto my sister Elizabeth forty shillings Item I give unto my cosin Richard Furse’s children nine pounds to be parted equally among them and to be paid within halfe year after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Gyles English the son of Amal English deceased fouer pounds to be putt forth by my executrix for the best benefitt of the said Gyles and to be paid him with the benefit thereof of att his full age of one and twenty yeares
Item I give unto Henry English the son of Christopher English the summe of tenn pounds
Item I give unto Peter English’s five children five pounds to be equally parted among them and my will is that if either of the children of the said Peter English shall happen to dye before the payment of the moneyes aforesaid then that his parte so dying shall remayne to the rest of them living
Item I give unto my cousin Grace Furse twenty shillings
Item I give unto Gyles Henry and Richard Patch the sonnes of Thomas Patch the elder three pounds to be parted equally among them
Item I give unto Thomas Patch junior sonne of Thomas Patch the elder fourty shillings
Item I give unto John Holwill myne apprentice thirty shillings
Item I give unto Thomas Sumpter the sonne of William Sumpter twenty shillings
Item I give unto my servant Thomas Axe twenty shillings and I give unto every such other servant either man or woman as shall be dwelling with me at the time of my death tenn shillings all which all legacies given as aforesaid shall be paid within one halfe yeare next after my decease
All the rest of my goods and chattells before not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath to Johanne my wife whome I make my whole and sole executrix and I doe hereby revoke and disanull all other and former Wills made heretofore at anytime
