In the name of God Amen the twentie eight of September in the fifth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith etc Anno Dm. one thousand sixe hundred twentie nine I Richard Gay of Collompton in the countie of Devon chirurgion beinge sicke of body but thankes bee to Allmightie God in perfect remembrance and uncertaine of death doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following

First I give and bequeath my soule to Allmightie God my maker and Redeemer and my body to christian buriall in the churchyard of Collompton in the north side betwixt the bellfery doore and another north doore

Item all the debts duties summe or summes of money that I owe of right either by law or conscience to bee due my will is that they bee instly and truly paid by my executor hereafter named

Item I give unto the poore of the pish of Collompton fortie shillings to bee bestowed upon the unablest poore at the discretion of the churchwardens and overseers of the tyme being

Item I give unto my wife Joane Gay twentie marks a yeare duringe her life if she soe longe live a widowe and alsoe one parlor and two chambers of which she please

Item I give unto my sonne Humfrey Gay one hundred pounds

Item I give unto my daughter Edith Cockram twentie shillings

Item I give unto my sonne Francis Gay five pounds he hath a [ ] at Dawlish and also he hath stood mee much money

Item I give unto my daughter Margaret Blackmore twentie shillings

Item I give unto my daughter Mary Gay one hundred pounds to be paid within two yeares after my decease

Item I give unto my daughter Ann Gay one hundred pounds to bee paid when she accomplish the age of fouer and twentie

Item I give unto Mary Gay my sonne Humfrey his daughter tenn pounds

Item I give unto Thomas Gay Francis Gay’s sonne tenn pounds when they shall accomplish the age of tenn yeares

Item I give unto David Cockram and John Cockram my daughter’s sonnes fortie shillings apiece to be paid within 10 years

Item I give unto Elizabeth Gay my sonne Humfrey Gay’s said daughter fortie shillings

Item I give unto my sonne Richard Gay all my goods leases bills bonds chattells and all such debts due unto me whom I make my executor

Item my will is that they shall live together until he recover in my money to pay his sisters portions

Alsoe I give to Henry Blackmor my daughter Margaret’s sonne fortie shillings if he shall accomplish the age of seaven years

Item I doe appoint Thomas Atkins Mr. George Cockram and William Sumpter my overseers to see this my will performed and for theire paines I give them ten shillings apiece

And hereunto I have sett my hand and seale the daie and yeare first above written my will is that Francis Harte shall have nine pound a yeare to bee paid him quarterly within twentie days after the quarter
