Proved 15th August 1848 in the Archdeaconry Court of Exeter
Appeared personally Thomas Grant of Week Farm in the parish of Cullompton in the county of Devon yeoman the sole executor named in the last Will and Testament of Thomas Grant late of Cullompton aforesaid yeoman who died on the 28th day of February 1848
This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Grant of Cullompton in the county of Devon yeoman which I publish and declare as follows
I give unto my wife Mary the sum of ten pounds to be paid her by my executor immediately after my decease I also owe unto my said wife the weekly sum of two shillings to be paid her quarterly by my son Thomas out of my personal estate hereinafter given him the first quarterly payment to be made at the expiration of three months next after my decease and to be continued during her life
I give unto my daughter Elizabeth the sum of one hundred and sixty pounds one hundred pounds of which sum I direct my said executor to pay my said daughter at the expiration of twelve months next after my decease and the remaining sum of sixty pounds to be paid her at the expiration of twelve months next after the decease of my said wife which said legacy shall be free from the debt controls or engagements of her present or any future husband being for her sole and separate use and I hereby declare that her receipt alone shall be a sufficient discharge for my said executor
I give unto my daughter Mary the wife of George Lewis of Tiverton in the said county labourer the sum of sixty pounds to be paid her by my said executor twelve months after the decease of my said wife
I give and bequeath unto my said wife all the household goods and furniture I now use during her natural life for her benefit and immediately after her disease I give the said household goods and furniture unto my said son Thomas and my said daughter Elizabeth to be equally divided between them share and share alike my will and desire is the same shall be fairly valued and divided and by said son and daughter shall draw lots for the first choice that all disputes may be avoided
Unto my son in law George Coles I give the sum of one shilling to be paid him immediately after my decease
All the rest residue and remainder of my goods chattles monies and effects whatsoever and wheresoever except as aforesaid which I shall die possessed of I give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas his executors administrators and assigns subject nevertheless and chargeable to and with the payment of the said annuity legacies and all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses
And whereas I have lately purchased a leasehold dwelling house garden and premises situate at Stonyford now I hereby empower my said wife to receive the whole of the rents and profits arising from the said premises during her life my said son causing the same to be kept in good repair and immediately after the death of my said wife I give the said dwelling house garden and premises with the appurtenances unto my said son Thomas his executors administrators and assigns
And I hereby appoint my said son Thomas sole executor for fulfilling the purposes of this my Will hereby revoking all of our Wills In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty four
