In the name of God Amen I John Mudford the younger of Collompton in the county of Devon merchant being weake of body but of sound and perfect memory blessed be Almighty God therefore renouncing all other wills and testaments heretofore by me made of what nature kind or quality soever doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following that is to say
First I recommend my soule into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body I committ to the Earth on whence it was extracted to be decently interred at Collompton aforesaid amongst my relations by my executors hereafter named
Item I give and bequeath unto Jane Mudford my now wife the bedd bedstead and furniture in the parlour chamber and the twelve leather chaires and trunk that is there and also one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid her by my executor hereafter named within three months next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath to my uncle William Smith’s tenne pounds to be paid him by my executors within one month next after my decease
Item I give to the poor ancient people of Collompton tenne pounds to be bestowed amongst them as my executors shall see fitt within one month next after my decease
Item my will and mind is that my debts legacies and funerall expenses shall be paid by my executors hereafter named out of my goods chattles and money as shall come to them by executorship
Item all the rest of my goods chattells debts and ready money I give unto Willm Mudford and Tho Mudford my brothers whom I make executors of this my last Will and Testament
And for the due performance of it I make and ordaine my trusty and well beloved friends John Mudford my father John Smith my uncle and Mr Thomas Speed trustees of this my Will and doe give to each of them a broad piece of gold to be paid by my executors above named for their care in seeing the due performance of this my Will
