I Samuel Plumpton of the parish of Cullompton in the County of Devon Yeoman being of a sound mind memory and understanding do make this my last Will and Testament this nineteenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.(that is to say)
I give and bequeath unto my friend Edward Ellicott Lieutenant in the first Devon Militia of the said parish of Cullompton in the County of Devon and to his heirs and assigns all my lands and tenements goods and chattles money and securities for money of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same may be in Trust for him to apply the same to the following uses and purposes (that is to say)
I give and bequeath unto Mary Ann Watkin my reputed daughter (and daughter of my reputed wife Mary Heard formerly or heretofore the wife of Henry Heard) and to be at her disposal after her decease ten pounds a year of lawful British money free and clear of all Rates Taxes or other outgoings whatsoever to be paid to her, her heirs or assigns out of the rents and profits of a house, garden and appurtenances situate in the parish and town of Cullompton aforesaid called the Globe Inn and now in my possession to be paid to her or her heirs or assigns at the end of one year next after my decease and to be continued to be paid to her or her heirs or assigns at the end of every succeeding year forever.
And also to suffer my reputed wife Mary Heard to have and to take all the rents and profits of all my lands and tenements she keeping the same in good tenantable repair and to have the use and profits of all my goods and chattles money and securities for money as aforesaid she paying or cause to be paid the said ten pounds yearly to my reputed daughter Mary Ann Watkin her heirs or assigns as aforesaid.
I also give the use and possession of all the lands I now rent to my said reputed wife devising my interest therein and fulfilling the covenant thereon and also paying all my just debts funeral expences and the expences necessarily attending the proving and executing this my Will And after the death of my said reputed wife Mary Ann Heard to the said Edward Ellicott his heirs and assigns to support the contingent uses as hereinafter mentioned that is to say to suffer my reputed son William Heard son of my reputed wife Mary Heard to have and take the rents and profits of all my lands and tenements and to have the use and profits of all my goods and chattles during his natural life he paying the annuity of ten pounds as aforesaid and keeping the premises in good tenantable repair.
And if my reputed son should happen to die before my reputed daughter in law, Mary Heard now the wife of my reputed son William Heard then to the said Edward Ellicott his heirs and assigns to suffer the said Mary Heard the wife of my reputed son William to have and take the rents and profits of all my lands and tenements and to have the use of all my goods and chattles during her natural life or as long as she shall remain a widow and no longer.
But my will nevertheless is that my reputed son William Heard shall have the sole disposal of all my property after the death or second marriage of my reputed daughter in law Mary Heard, the annuity of ten pounds before given only excepted.
And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said reputed son William Heard my sole executor and residuary Legatee of this my Last Will and Testament.
And my will is that my trustee his executors administrators or assigns shall not be answerable with or accountable for any more of the trust money than shall actually come into his hand or possession and also that it shall be lawful for my said trustee in the first place by and out of my real and personal estate to retain or to reimburse himself all such costs charges damages and expences as he shall or may pay or sustain or be put unto in the management or execution of the several trusts aforesaid.
And I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made and declare this to be my last & only true Last Will and Testament.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Samuel Plumpton the Testator his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other –
