Proved 5th May 1848 in the Archdeaconry Court of Exeter
Appeared personally Jane Salter of Cullompton in the county of Devon the widow and sole executrix named in the last Will and Testament of Charles Salter late of Cullompton aforesaid yeoman deceased who died on the 12th day of November 1847
This is the last Will and Testament of me Charles Salter of Westcott in the parish of Cullompton in in the county of Devon yeoman which I publish and declare as follows
I give and devise all those my messuages hereditaments and premises called Haymans House situate in the parish and near the town of Cullompton aforesaid consisting of two dwelling houses orchard and garden with their appurtenances now in the occupation of John Baker and Richard Saunders as tenants thereof unto my son in law John Hole of Plymtree in the said county gentleman his heirs and assigns forever
I give and devise all those my messuages hereditaments and premises called Part of Hills consisting of six dwelling houses gardens and orchard all situate in Crow Green in Cullompton aforesaid and now in the several occupations of William Greenslade Phoebe Getheridge William Gunn Edward Hall and two others unto my son in law Joseph Ham of Silverton in the said county gentleman his heirs and assigns forever
I give and device unto my wife Jane Salter all the Great or sheaf Tithes of Trumps and of the allotment in Mutterton Moor belonging to Trumps in the said parish of Cullompton
Also all that copyhold estate called Stone Coombehayes situate in the parish of Bradninch in the said county
To hold the same with their rights members and appurtenances respectively unto my said wife Jane Salter and her assigns during her life (subject nevertheless to the payments hereinafter directed)
And from and immediately after the decease of my said wife then I give and devise the said Great or sheaf Tithes of Trumps and all that my said copyhold estate called Stone Coombehayes with their appurtenances respectively unto my son John Salter his heirs executors administrators and assigns
I also give unto my said wife Jane Salter her executors administrators and assigns absolutely all my farming stock live and dead household furniture goods chattels monies and securities for money and effects whatsoever and wheresoever for her own absolute use and benefit
I also give devise and bequeath unto my said wife all those my several messuages tenements hereditaments and premises (except as aforesaid) situate respectively in Exeter Road Crow Green and New Street of the town of Cullompton aforesaid
To hold the same unto my said wife Jane Salter and her assigns for the term of two years if she shall so long live commencing from the day of my death she keeping the same in tenantable repair and insured against loss by fire
And I hereby declare and direct and my said will is that my said wife shall as far as she is enabled during her life out of the income derivable from the whole of the property so given and devise to her as aforesaid or in such other way as she shall see fit pay unto my six unmarried daughters the sum of one hundred pounds each
Provided always that if my said wife shall be unable or fail during her lifetime to pay the whole or any part of the said sums of one hundred pounds each of my said daughters then I direct my said son John Salter to pay the same unto my said daughters or any arrears or deficiency which shall appear due at the time of the death of my said wife within twelve months next after her decease and I hereby charge and make liable the whole of my property so given to my said son John to and with the payment thereof respectively
And from and immediately after the expiration of the said term of two years or death of my said wife which ever shall first happen then I give and devise all those my said messuages or tenements hereditaments and premises unto my six unmarried daughters in manner following (that is to say)
I give and devise unto my daughter Mary Salter her heirs executors administrators and assigns all those my messuages or dwelling houses gardens and premises called Part of Hills and Humphrey Thorne in the several occupations of John Gibbs John Voisy John Brimson and Joseph Tarrington and situate respectively in Crow Green New Street and Exeter Road of the town of Cullompton aforesaid now rated to the poor in the name of the said Mary Salter
Unto my daughter Jane Salter her heirs and assigns I give and devise all those my messuages dwelling houses garden and premises called Chave and Peters severally occupied by Richard Way John Lane and John Dummett and situate at the head of New Street in the said town of Cullompton now rated to the Poor in the name of my daughter the said Jane Salter
Unto my daughter Elizabeth Salter her heirs executors administrators and assigns I give and devise all those my messuages or dwelling houses garden and premises called Part of Hills all situate in Crow Green in the town of Cullompton aforesaid and occupied respectively by Frederick Hawkins Francis Langham and Ann Taylor now rated to the Poor in the name of the said Elizabeth Salter
I give and devise unto my daughter Sarah Salter her heirs executors administrators and assigns all those my messuages or dwelling houses gardens and premises called Part of Hills in the several occupations of Mary Maunder Thomas Galpin Richard Taylor and Sarah Bazley and situate in Crow Green aforesaid and now rated to the Poor in the name of the said Sarah Salter
I give and devise unto my daughter Charlotte Salter her heirs executors administrators and assigns all those my messuage or dwelling houses gardens and premises called Part of Hills situate in Crow Green aforesaid occupied respectively by James Prigg John Taylor and William May are now rated to the Poor in the name of the said Charlotte Salter
Unto my daughter Eliza Salter her heirs executors administrators and assigns I give and devise all those my messuages or dwelling houses gardens and premises called Humphrey Thorne in the several occupations of Robert Wyatt Richard Incledon and John Bazley and situate in the Exeter Road of the said town of Cullompton and now also rated to the Poor in the name of the said Eliza Salter
And I hereby appoint my said wife sole executrix of my said Will hereby revoking all former Wills and direct her to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses
In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand this eleventh day of October one thousand eight hundred and forty seven C. Salter
Signed by the said testator as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as attesting witnesses
