This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary Shere of Cullompton in the county of Devon spinster

I give and bequeath unto Humphrey Blackmore Mills of Cullompton aforesaid papermaker all my moneys securities for money and everything that I may die possessed of in trust as follows

I give and bequeath unto my nephews and nieces John William Ann and Elizabeth sons and daughters of my late brother-in-law James Bevans of the said parish of Cullompton carpenter deceased the sum of ten pounds each

I give and bequeath unto my nephew James son of the said James Bevans the sum of five pounds which said legacies I direct shall be paid as soon as convenient after my decease provided my said nephews and nieces have attained their ages of twenty one years if not I request my trustee to place the same out on good security until they respectively attain their said ages of twenty one years and then pay them together with the interest accrued therefrom

I give and bequeath unto my said trustee Humphrey Blackmore Mills the sum of five pounds for executing the trust herein in him reposed

In case I should die at Mr James Bennett’s house I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth his wife the sum of five pounds to be paid her immediately after my disease to purchase mourning

I give and bequeath unto my brother Ambrose Shere my bible

I give and bequeath unto my brother Ambrose my bureau

I give and bequeath unto my said nephews John James and William sons of my said brother in law James Bevans deceased a silk pocket handkerchief each

I give and bequeath unto my said brother Ambrose Shere two silk pocket handkerchiefs

I give and bequeath unto my nephews Thomas Ambrose John and Henry sons of my late brother Thomas a silk pocket handkerchief each all which handkerchiefs to be given immediately after my decease

I give and bequeath unto my said brother Ambrose two silver tablespoons

I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary daughter of my late brother Thomas six silver teaspoons

I give and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth daughter of my late brother Thomas a silver teaspoon

I give and bequeath unto my niece Jane daughter of my late brother Thomas my bedstead and furniture but not any bedding

I give and bequeath unto my said brother Ambrose a pair of silver sugar tongs

I give and bequeath unto my said niece Elizabeth daughter of my late brother in law James Bevans a silver tea scoop

I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel unto my said nieces Ann and Elizabeth daughters of my late brother in law James Bevans Mary Elizabeth and Jane daughters of my late brother Thomas to be divided equally between them by my trustee as soon as convenient after my decease

And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my effects after payment of my just debts funeral expenses and the expense of proving this my Will I give and bequeath the same unto my said brother Ambrose

And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint him the said Humphrey Blackmore Mills executor in trust of this my last Will and Testament

In witness whereof I the said Mary Shere have to this my last Will and Testament subscribed my hand this nineteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty eight Mary Shere

Signed published and declared by the said Testatrix Mary Shere as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto the word “brother” being first interlined in the eighteenth line of the first sheet and the erasures made in the eighteenth and nineteenth lines of the first sheet Henry Hill Henry Hill Junr

Proved at London 24th May 1849 before the judge by the oath of Humphrey Blackmore Mills the sole executor to whom admon was granted having been first sworn by comon duly to administer
