Executrix Mary Skinner widow

This is the last Will and Testament of me Hugh Skinner of Cullompton in the county of Devon surgeon and apothecary made this sixth day of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety two

I give and devise unto my dear wife Mary Skinner and her assigns for and during her natural life if my interest therein shall so long continue all that messuage or tenement with the appurtenances called Boylings situate in the town of Cullompton aforesaid and now in the occupation of Mr Elias Jarman

And from and after her decease I give and devise the same unto my son in law John Finnemore his executors administrators and assigns for and during all my right and interest therein

I give and devise unto my son Henry Skinner during his natural life all that shop and chamber over the same part of Girds Tenement situate in Cullompton aforesaid now in my possession with free and uninterrupted passage to and from the same through the entry or passage belonging to the dwelling house in which I now live

I also give unto my said son Henry Skinner all my drugs medicines instruments shop furniture medical books and all other my stock in trade whatsoever appertaining to my business of a surgeon and apothecary

All the rest of my messuages tenements lands hereditaments and premises whatsoever whether freehold leasehold or otherwise I give and devise unto my said dear wife and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life

And from and after her decease I give and devise the same and every part thereof unto my two sons Henry Skinner and George Skinner there heirs executors administrators and assigns equally to be divided between them share and share alike to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants

But my will is that if my said son Henry shall be desirous of having the whole property of the dwelling house and premises in which I now live and also of that part of a certain tenement called Girds which adjoins thereto and which I now occupy therewith and shall at any time within one year next after my death signify such his desire unto my said son George that then my said son George on being paid the sum of one hundred and twenty five pounds by my said son Henry (that being as I judge the value of one moiety of the same premises) shall grant and convey unto my said son Henry his heirs executors administrators and assigns all the right and interest of my said son George of and in the said dwelling house and part of Girds

Also I give unto my said dear wife the use of all my plate china linen and pictures and all other my household goods household furniture ornaments and implements of household whatsoever she preserving the same as much as in her lies

Also I give unto her during her natural life all the interest income and produce of all my mortgages bonds notes and other securities for money whatsoever and of all such rent and debts as may be due and owing to me and of all other my personal estate and effects whatsoever (not hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed) the same being as soon as conveniently may my death turned into money and placed out at interest on the best security or securities which by said wife can procure for the same

And after her decease I give all and singular my said plate china linen pictures household goods household furniture ornaments and implements of household principal money due on mortgages bonds notes or other securities whatsoever and all other my said personal estate and effects whatsoever unto my said two sons Henry Skinner and George Skinner their executors administrators and assigns equally to be divided between them share and share alike

And lastly I appoint my said dear wife sole executrix of this my said Will hereby revoking all other and every other Will and Wills by me made and ratifying this alone to be my last

In witness whereof I have to this my said Will set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Hugh Skinner

Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator Hugh Skinner as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other R. Hurley William Wescombe Thomas Rodgers

A codicil to be taken as part of the Will of the said Hugh Skinner

After the decease of my dear wife Mary Skinner I give unto my daughter in law Mary Garrett wife of John Garrett of Chudleigh in the county of Devon clerk the choice of my silver tankers the other of which after that event I give unto John Finnemore my son in law as a small token of my regard to both

I also give unto my son George Skinner after the death of my said dear wife my silver coffee pot and stand

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety two Hugh Skinner

A second codicil to my Will

Whereas since the date of my Will I have disposed of the messuage called Boylings therein bequeathed unto my son in law john Finnemore after the death of my dear wife I do hereby give him at her decease one hundred pounds in lieu thereof

I also bequeath unto my son in law the Revd John Garrett of Chudleigh aforesaid the sum of ten guineas to be laid out in the purchase of some little memorial of our friendship

Unto my son George Skinner I give my gold watch

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety five Hugh Skinner
