In the name of God Amen I Hannah Tayler the wife of Joseph Tayler of Collumpton in Devon grocer and tea dealer being of a sound mind memory and understanding do make publish and declare this as my last Will and Testament in manner and form following
First and principally I recommend my soul to the protection of Almighty God trusting that through the intercession of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ I may receive remission of my sins and inherit eternal life and as to my body I desire it may be brought to Exeter and be interred in the Church of St Pancras with the remains of my deceased and much honoured mother
Whereas by a certain Indenture of Settlement made previous to my marriage with the said Joseph Tayler I have a right to dispose of the sum of nine hundred and fifty pounds in the three per cent consols and of the sum of one thousand and seventy pounds in the old South Sea annuities standing in the names of William Wilcocks of Exeter gentleman and William Nation of the Middle Temple London esquire subject to the life interest of the said Joseph Tayler therein in case he survives me now it is my will and desire that if on my death the said Joseph Tayler shall be disposed to give up and release his life hold interest in the said property I do hereby order and direct my trustees and executors in trust hereinafter named to sell and dispose of the said some of nine hundred and fifty pounds stock and one thousand and seventy pounds old South Sea annuities
And by and out of the monies to arise therefrom subject to the payment of my debts funeral expenses and the legacies hereinafter given to pay unto my said husband the said Joseph Tayler the sum of four hundred pounds to and for his own use and benefit
And do and shall divide the residue and remainder of the said monies unto and between my cousins Bridget Cotton Hallett the wife of John Hallett of Fowey surgeon Eliza Rowe of Penryn postmistress her sister Polly Cork Rowe Phillipa Bartlett the wife of William Abraham Bartlett of East Lambrook gentlemen Rachel Giles housekeeper to the Reverend R Comtels Abingdon my aunt Martha Rowe of Collumpton and my aunt Elizabeth Mould of Fowey widow equally to be divided between them share and share alike the parts or shares of the said Bridget Cotton Hallet and the said Philippa Bartlett to be paid to them respectively for their respective use separate and apart from their respective husbands so that either of them shall have nothing to do therewith nor shall the same or any part thereof be subject to his debts control or engagements and their receipt or receipts alone shall be a sufficient discharge to my said trustees therefore
And in case of the death of either of them the said Bridget Cotton Hallett Eliza Rowe Polly Cork Rowe Philippa Bartlett Rachael Giles Martha Rowe and Elizabeth Mould in my lifetime then the share of her or them so dying shall go to and be paid to the survivors of them in equal parts shares and proportions save as to the shares of the said Bridget Cotton Hallett and Philippa Bartlett which in the event of either of their deaths before me together with any further interest arising from survivorship I do hereby order and direct shall be paid to their respective children in equal parts
shares and proportions so that the children of each of them the said Bridget Cotton Hallett and Philippa Bartlett shall receive the same part or share to which their respective mothers would have been entitled had they survived me
But if my husband the said Joseph Tayler in case of his surviving me shall refuse to give up his lifehold interest in the said sum of nine hundred and fifty pounds stock and one thousand and seventy pounds Old South Sea annuities on the condition aforesaid then it is my will and I do hereby order and direct my said trustees and executors in trust or the survivor of them his executors or admors immediately after his decease to sell and dispose of the said sum of £950 stock and £1070 Old South Sea annuities and after payment of my just debts and the legacies hereinafter given to divide the residue and remainder of the monies to arise therefrom unto and between my said cousins the said Bridget Cotton Hallett Eliza Rowe Polly Cork Rowe Philippa Bartlett Rachael Giles Martha Rowe and Elizabeth Mould in equal parts shares and proportions the part or share of the said Bridget Cotton Hallet and the said Philippa Bartlett to be paid to them respectively for their respective use separate and apart from their respective husbands as hereinbefore mentioned with benefit of survivorship as aforesaid save as to the shares of the said Bridget Cotton Hallet and Philippa Bartlett which in the event of either of their deaths before me together with any future interest arising from survivorship I do hereby order and direct shall be paid to their respective children in equal parts shares and proportions as aforesaid
I also give and bequeath unto Anna Foy Elizabeth Evans Thomas Rowsell Mary Lucas James Humphreys and Edmund Pye five pounds each to be paid unto them respectively within three months after my death but in case my husband the said Joseph Tayler shall not on my death give up his lifehold interest in the said property then it is my will that the said several legacies shall not be paid until three months after the decease of my said husband
I also give unto my trustees and executors in trust the said William Wilcocks William Nation the younger and John Rowe Mould gentlemen the sum of ten pounds apiece as a mark of my esteem and respect for them and as a small remuneration for the trouble they will experience in discharging the trusts of this my Will
And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said William Wilcocks William Nation the younger and John Rowe Mould trustees and executors in trust of this my Will hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and I do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament
And I do hereby declare that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said trustees and the survivor of them his executors and administrators by and out of the trust monies which shall come to his or their hands respectively to deduct and reimburse themselves and himself all such sum and sums of money whatsoever as they or any or either of them shall or may pay bear expend or be put unto for or by reason of the trusts hereby in them reposed or in the management or execution of the same and that the said William Wilcocks William Nation the younger and John Rowe Mould or the survivor of them his executors or administrators shall not be answerable or accountable for any more money than that they shall actually respectively receive by virtue of the trusts aforesaid nor for the loss misapplication or nonapplication thereof or of any part thereof unless the same shall happen through their or his wilful neglect or default nor shall they or either of them be charged or chargeable with or answerable or accountable for the receipt or receipts of the other of them but each of them for his own acts deeds receipts and wilful defaults only
In witness whereof I the said Hannah Tayler the testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament contained and written on five sheets of paper set my hand to the first four sheets and my hand and seal to this fifth and last sheet thereof this thirtieth day of April in the year of our Lord 1817

On the 28th of April 1821 admon with the Will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Hannah Tayler wife of Joseph Tayler late of Collumpton in the county of Devon deceased was granted to William Wilcocks William Nation the younger and John Rowe Mould esquire the exors named in the said Will having been first sworn by commission duly to administer Joseph Tayler the lawful husband of the said deceased having first consented as by act of court appears
