In the name of God Amen the twentye nynthe daye of September in ye yere of our Lord God a thousande fyve hundred three score seven and in the nynthe yere of ye reigne of our Sovereigne Ladye Elizabeth etc. I Thomasyn Thomas of Collumpton in the countye of Devon beinge of wholle mynde and in good and perfecte remembrance laude and prayse be unto allmightye God make and ordeyne this my present Testament conteyning therein my laste Wyll in manner and forme followinge that ys to saye
Fyrst I comende my soule unto Almightie God my maker and redeemer and my body to be buryed in the churche of Collompton where as Alexander Thomas my late husband was buryed
Item I wyll that all suche debts and dutyes as I owe of right or a conveyance to any pson or psons be well and trulye contented and payd by myne executor or executors hereafter named
Item I give and bequeath to my sonne John Thomas the tenement wythe the appurtenances there unto apperteyning and belonginge in the tenure of Elizabeth Wood wydowe
Item I give and bequeathe to my sayed sonne John Thomas the tenement with the appurtenances in the tenure of Wyllm Payne
Item I give and bequeathe to my sayed sonne John Thomas all my estate tytle intereste and terme of yeares that I have or heareafter may have to me and to myne assygnes in the house wherein Henry Bayle nowe dwelleth wythe the appurtenances
Item I give and bequeathe to my sonne Robert Thomas duringe his lyfe one annuall rent of thirty shillings to be payed yearely after my death out of those lands and tenements which I purchased of Marke Slade [ ] to me and my heires for ever the fee symbol of the said land and tenement I do give to my sonne John Thomas and to the heyre of his body lawfully begotten and for defaulte of such heires to the heires of my three daughters Thomasin Elizabeth and Dorothye
Item I give and bequeathe to my sonne Robert Thomas one fetherbedd performed
Item my will is that my daughter Elizabeth More the wyfe of George More shall have and holde of my grante for tearme of her lyfe one close and a meadowe called Sampford Close and Meadowe ymedyatelye after the determynation of Robert Bakers lease
And also my will is at my said daughter Elizabeth shall yearely receyve sixteen shillings eighte pence for rent of one tenement with the appurtenances in Collompton aforesayd in the tenure of Symon Kylawaye and his assignes condytionally that she the same Elizabeth More and her assygns for the sayed yearly rent of sixteene shillings eight pence and for the close or meadowe doo pay yearely to the foresayed Robert Thomas during his lyfe one annual rent of thirty shillings by even portions that is to say seven shillings six pence quarterly too begyne ymedyately after my death yelding and paying thencefore to John Thomas and his heires foure pence yerely rent in the feast of St Michael the Archangel yf it be demanded
Item I give and bequeath one annuall rent going out of one tucking myll one barne and orcheyarde two closures of pasture and one meadowe nowe in the tenure of Walter Bale to Abraham Turner and Thomasyne his wyfe for terme of their lyves and to the longer lyfe of them yf my estate and tearme so longe endure
And if the sayed Abraham and Thomasyn his wyfe dye before the sayed tearme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed yerely rent to my sonne John Thomas during his lyfe yf my estate and terme so long endure
And yf the sayed John Thomas dye before the terme expired then I give and bequeath the sayed yearely rente to Elizabeth More ye wife of George More and Dorothy Crosse the wyfe of Ambrose Crosse my sayed daughters for and during their lyves and the longer lyves of them yf my estate and terme so longe endure
And if the sayed Elizabeth and Dorothy dye before the terme expired then I give and bequeathe the said yearely rent unto the children of my sonne John Thomas lawfully begotten for and during their lyves and the longer lyves of them yf my estate and terme so long endure
And if they all dye before the tearm expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed yearely rent and all my estate and terme of yeres then to come and unexpired to the poore of the towne of Collumpton
Item I give and bequeathe to my daughter Elizabeth More the tenement wythe the appurtenances that I the sayed Thomasyne Thomas nowe dwell in for terme of her lyfe yf my estate and terme so longe endure
And yf the sayed Elizabeth dye before the sayed terme expired then I give the said tenement wythe the appurtenances to my daughter Dorothye Crosse for terme of her lyfe yf my estate and terme so long endure
And yf the sayed Dorothy dy before the terme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenement wythe the appurtenances to Thomas More sonne of the foresayed George and Elizabeth for terme of his life yf my estate and terme so long endure
And yf the sayed Thomas dy before the terme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenement with the appurtenances to Dorothye Turner the daughter of Abraham Turner and Thomasin his wife for terme of her lyfe yf my estate and terme so longe endure
And yf the sayed Dorothie dye before the terme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenement wythe the appurtenances unto the children of my sayed sonne John Thomas lawfully begotten for terme of theire lyves and the longer lyves of them
And yf they dye before the term expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenement wythe the appurtenances unto Humfrey Crosse the sonne of Ambrose Cross and Dorothie his wyfe for terme of his life yf my estate and terme so longe endure
And yf the sayed Humfrey dye before the sayed terme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenement wythe the appurtenances to Willm Crosse the sonne of the aforesayed Willm and Dorothie for terme of his lyfe yf my estate and terme so longe endure
And yf the sayed Willm dye before the sayed terme expired then I give and bequeathe the sayed tenemente wythe the appurtenances and all my estate and terme of years then to come unexpired to the poore of ye prishe of Collumpton aforesayed to be yearely dystrybuted by suche psons as I shall nomynate and appoynte by my sayed Will
Item I give and bequeath to Anne Thomas the wyfe of my sonne John Thomas my best cassocke
Item I wyll that my seallinge in my house shall [ ] continue and remayne during my tearm as an implement of the sayed house to suche psons as I by my wyll have made over [ ]
Item I give and bequeath all my apparell to my three daughters Thomasyne Elizabeth and Dorothie equallye to be devyded saving yt my wyll is that Elizabeth shall have her choice first of one sute only [ ] throughout bothe of my apparell and also of my lynen
Item I give and bequeathe all my napery pannes crocke iii [ ] and all my stuff of household to my three daughters aforsayed equallye to be devyded saving that my wyll is that Elizabethe shall have her choyce fyrst throughout bothe in the napery pannes crock three [ ] and stuff of household
Item I give and bequeathe to Thomas More the sonne of George More two milche [ ] and a sylver [ ] and to Elizabeth Thomas the daughter of John Thomas one milche cowe
Item I give and bequeathe to any of my godchildren six pence apiece
Item I give and bequeath where I have had three godchildren in one house to as many as be nowe lyvinge of them twelve pence apiece
Item I give and bequeathe to every of my children’s children three shillings foure pence
Item I give and bequeathe to Willm Linnes after my decease three shillings foure pence to be payed yearely by my executor or executors during the lyfe of Willm Linnes
Item I declare by this my last Wyll and Testament that all my deeds grannts leases and other writinge bothe of my fee symple lande as also for lyves and for yeares or nowe in the custody and kepinge of my sonne John Thomas withe wrytninge and leases I will that any one of them to whom I gave assygned a terme may have the wrytings rson made shall requyre according to the true meanyngs of this my Will as my trust is in him
And moreover my requeste and desyre is to my sayed sonne John Thomas to be good brother unto my daughter Elizabeth More his syster duringe her lyfe in consideration that he has children all thinges goode as I nowe have and ye mynd being in his keping att Upton
Item I give and bequeathe to the poor my wood that remayne in my tenement I dwell ymmediately to be devyded after my deathe as my executor and overseers shall thinke good
The resydue of my goods and chattells not given nor bequeathed I give to my daughter Elizabeth More whom I make my executrix to the ends I may have this my last Will performed in all thinges accordinglye to the terme meaning hereof I hartelye desire
And by this my last Will I make Roger Cole and Willm Payne my overseers and to everye of them I give and bequeathe two shillings foure pence apiece
And I utterly revoke and adnull all and every other formee Testament Wylles legacies bequeste and devisives by me in any wyse before this tyme made named wylled and bequeathed these being witnesses [ ] Thomas [ ]
