In the name of God Amen In the yere of oure Lord God a thousand fyve hundred fortie and nyne and the xvj daye of July and in the thirde yere of the reigne of our sovereign Lorde Edward the sixth by the grace of God of England France and Irelande kinge defender of the faith and in earth under god of the churche of England and also Ireland supreme hedd
I Thomas Troke of Columpton merchante with pfytt memory do ordayne and make this my last Will and Testament in forme as followeth
First I bequeath my soule to the omnipotent God and to his [ ] and my body to the holly sepulchre within the pshe churche of Colmpton
Secondly I give to the mayntenance and reparation of my pishe churche xxs
Also I bequeath to twentie poore men within the saide pishe of Colompton twentye shirts and to other twentie poore women twentie smocks the other of the shirts and smocks to be of [Lorraine ]
Also I do give xij pounds vjs vijd to be distributyd amonge the poor people for the relief of them
Also I bequeathe to every of my godchildred xjd
Item I bequeath to my naturall sonne Henry Troke two hundred marks of good and lawfull money of England
Also I bequeath to every of my foure daughters one hundred marks of good and lawfull money of England
All which good and lawfull money I will to be delyvered unto the handes of my overseers whom I will to laye it further by exchange to some honest men so that they bringe sufficient securieis to repaye the totall summe to the children’s handes at the tyme of their marriage which money before mentioned I will to be delyvered forth to exchange after which the hundred and the yerely profit thereof I will to be given to Johan my wife for the mayntenance of my daughters unto such tyme as they be xxij yeres old
Also I will the two hundred marks of my sonne Henry to bee delyvered to my overseers whome I will like manner to laye it forthe to exchange as before mentioned for the mayntenance of hym unto suche tyme as he be xvij yeres old and then I will the summe of two hundred marks to be delyvered unto hym [ ] yt then to his profitt
Further I will that yf any of my children depart this lyfe before that they be marryed I will then that portion of money equally to be distributed amonge the other of my children
Yf so fortune that more than one to peryshe the goods to remayne then also to them that be then alyve
Yf so fortune that all my children depart this lyfe before they be marryed I will then the totall summe of sixe hundred marks to remayne to the use and [ ] of Johan my wyf
Also I will all suche pcells of grounde as I have boughte for terme of yeres after the death of Johane my wyfe to remayne ymmediately to Henry Troke my sonne and after his death to Ellin Troke my eldest daughter and after her death to the remnant of my children lawfully begotten [ ] during the term
Also I will John Lytlejohn of Wilond bringing sufficient securities to have for [ ] portion of the money paying yerely for the exchange as before ys mentioned
Also I will my sonne Henry to have a black cote my daughter black kyrtells and my wife a black gowne
The remnant of my goodes as well movable and unmovable my debts legacies and funerall discharged and paide I do give and bequeathe to Johan Troke my wife whom I ordayne and make my sole executor
And to this my last Will pformyd I ordeyn Symon Kelwaye George Cockram and William Parys and to every of them I do give for their paynesa [ ]cloth the price of every yarde xjs
To this my last Will testifyeth Phillip Baker curate Daniel Cokyr and Thomas Chaptoy
