In the name of God Amen I Richard Varley of Colompton beinge in healthe and perfect remembrance god be praysed doe make my last Will and Testament in manner and forme followinge
First I bequeath my soule to Almightie God my maker and redeemer and my body to the earth.
Item I gyve to the mayntenance of the church for my grave six shillings eight pence.
Item I gyve to the poore of the parish twentie shillings
Item I gyve to Katherine my wiffe twentie poundes allwayes to her owne use and my best cloake hatt shirte a sylver spoone a dishe performed and a possenett
Item duringe her life and wyddoe estate I give her a [ ] standinge bedsteede with a bedd in the parlor and two coverlette two blanketts two sheete two pillowes a bolster a trucklebedd alone a tableborde and two formes
And after her widdoes estate or death I gyve to my sonne William
Item I gyve to my daughter Joane thirteen pounds six shillings eight pence and fortie shillings a yeare for the terme of one and twentie yeares out of [Stonyhilfes] to be paid quarterlie to her and to her assignes
Item I gyve her the tableborde in the hall and the formes with all the thinges which doe now ytayne to yt and a cubbord with a [ ] in the same haule and three platters free pottengers and three [sauvers] and two brass crockes a greate and a little and a [ ] panne with a [ ] and a table where she did lye and a second tableborde where I lye and a coffer and her mother’s lynnen and all her apparell
Item too little pannes and a caudron a broth with the yrons and the bedd and bedstead wherein I lye performed and a coffer in the drinkhouse an amrye a trendle a [ ] [ ] and two other fates and three coltes and a barrel and a sylver spoone
Item I gyve to John Varley my brother a doublett a paire of hose and a hatte
Item I gyve to my boye three shillings foure pence a coate two doublette two paire of hose two payre of stockens and my old hatte
Item I gyve to William Varley my sonne all my estate for the terme of nyne hundred and odde yeares yet to come of and in all those two parcells of land called [Stoneyhilfes] with common of pasture upon Willand more and Joane Hilles and in one close called Perdon which he has to have hold and enjoye to him and his heires forever except the rente before excepted
And my will is that yf my sonne William dye without issue than the foresayde premises shall remayne to Joane my daughter and her yssue lawfullie begotten
And yf my daughter dye without issue likewise then the foresaide premises to remayne to John Varley the sonne of William Varley of Bicklye in the countie of Devon clearke and to his heires forever
The resydue of my goods not gyven I gyve to William Varley my sonne whom I make my whole executor
And I appoynte and ordaine William Varley and Phillip Tyllerd my overseers and for their paines I gyve them three shillinges foure pence apiece
